Artist member since 2019
Toronto, Ontario
Lucy Hare is a Toronto-based emerging artist and existentialist who explores themes of the human experience, the abstract quality of time, and the beauty of nature in her work. She graduated with a BFA in Drawing and Painting from OCAD University in 2019. Working mostly in egg tempera, watercolour or acrylic, she creates whimsical, fragmented, and abstract scenes derived from organic forms.
Lucy lives in the upper beaches with her three cats. She enjoys watching film critiques more than actual films and is obsessed with movie scores. Though she is a bit of a homebody and likes to play chess every weekend, she's always down to try new food, explore Toronto, and grab a drink with friends. She is drawn to museums and galleries and is interested in geology and palaeontology, themes and images she often filters into her work.
Lucy's neurotic nature is frequently expressed in her abstract works. She often creates pieces that exude a certain mood that corresponds with her own while she paints and processes her frustration and mental stresses through her work. Her studio space is as messy as her brain, but somehow she manages to keep herself organized.

Q+A
What kind of artwork do you have in your home?
I have small, quirky artworks in my space at home. I have pieces made by friends peppered amongst my Halloween paraphernalia. I tend towards many tiny and meaningful pieces, and like to collage cork boards. I enjoy the macabre and overtly sexual, and have works and objects that confront those entering into my space.
Beverage of choice
I’ll have a black coffee, or if I need to treat myself I’ll have a fancy latte or something. If we’re talking alcohol I’ll have a vodka cran.
I'm really good at making (a) ...
fool of myself.
What artists do you admire right now?
Lawren Harris, Brian Jungen, HR Giger, Georgia O'Keeffe, Dale Chihuly, Jim Henson, James C Christensen, Francis Bacon.
When I'm not making art, I'm (a) ...
Staring off into the great beyond, questioning the function of society, my own consciousness, time, space, or I'll be rewatching the same youtube videos over and over. Sometimes you may find me out in nature, absorbing the energy of my surroundings. Sometimes you will find me drunk-cackling in a cozy Toronto bar, clonking around in my black heeled boots and pretending I know what I'm supposed to be doing with my life.
Favourite medium
Watercolour is probably my favourite due to its immediacy and transportability, but I also love acrylic, encaustic, and egg tempera. I tend to focus on one medium for a while and then return to something else.
